Carbon Offset

Here at Little Tonne Diggers we are well aware of the impacts our industry has on global warming and change. We know we use a significant amount of fossil fuels to run our machinery and gear and some of the materials we use have an effect as well.

We are trying to do our part where we can and are working on doing more and more all the time.

Although what we do is not "official" we believe every bit helps and counts.

Here are some of the things we do to help:

  1. We have a planting programme, whereby we put a percentage of each job toward purchasing plants. We then do a mass planting a few times a year.

  2. We use wet vacuums, vacuum trucks and silt socks to stop sludge and waste from entering the storm water drains and going into the ocean, ESPECIALLY when we do exposed concrete driveways.

  3. We suggest using local materials where possible like Macrocarpa timber.

  4. We keep all our machinery regularly serviced.

  5. Minimise waste where we can. We don’t have a yard skip. This forces us to not just throw everything away and think about its end use.

  6. We transplant shrubs, plants and trees from jobs where we can instead of just killing them.
